What you can do with a little putty...

Originally he was the Daemonic Herald of Nurgle from Forgeworld.

Now, with a little putty work and a paintjob, he's a Mechanicum Magos.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said about the work on my others Magos/Adepts, except to say thanks to Eye Of Error for his quickfire tutorial on painting liquid in vials, found here.

As a reminder, here he is in his pre-paint stage.

And here's a shot to entice you over to our Guns Of April blog. This year's project is just a month away from hitting the table at Adepticon. Hopefully everyone will be ready!

Cheers
Dave

  1. Wow! Another amazing conversion that just oozes 40k character. Any chance of a mechanicus group shot? Id love to see your take on a 'regular' skitari trooper.

    1. Hi Phil

I'm waiting on my Tech Deck bases from DragonForge to arrive and once they do I'll be painting up a bunch of them and rebasing my army. Somewhere in amongst there I'll get you a "family photo".

  4. Masterful as always! Love the cloaks, and how you had fun with the tentacle/cable maker! I am hoping to snag one of those myself!

I also hope that we can get a chance to hang out a little at Adepticon. :-)

  5. Yet another lovely Blanchesque figure (though I'd like to see a more mouldy, organic paint job in the great man's style). I sometimes wonder why you even bother with a starting figure, your green stuffing can be so complete that you might as well have made it all yourself from scratch.

    Great stuff.

    1. Thanks Euan, but when it comes to painting, I have my own style I have to follow ; )

As for sculpting my own stuff, I think it's more a matter for being able to keep the anatomy/proportions of the original figure.

  6. Another great peice Dave. Is there any chance of these making an appearance at Dropzone this weekend? It would make a trip from NC even more worth it!

    1. Hey TJ

I was just reading your post about being at the GT.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it down there. Definitely not on Saturday as it's my eldest's fourth birthday : ) But I'll see what I can do on either Friday or Sunday.

      Cheers

  7. They look awesome as always and a really dig the way you are able to make Dark Eldar Parts blend in and look mechanics instead of elven.

Glad that tutorial came in handy! :D

  8. Very impressive, in particular the work on the right arm, a lot of pieces than I recognize with great difficulty !

  9. Dave, love your Iron Brigade. Before you go running off to Adepticon and another GoA, will you give us your painting formula for the Federal coats and pants?

    1. Hi Jonas

No worries, here are the colors used:
      • Coats - start with a basecoat of black/VGC Imperial Blue, highlight with Imperial Blue, highlight with Imperial Blue/GW Thunderhawk Blue.
      • Pants - start with a basecoat of Imperial Blue/Thunderhawk Blue, highlight with Thunderhawk Blue, highlight again with Thunderhawk Blue/VMC Pale Sand.

      Hope that helps.

      Cheers
      Dave
