Mechanicum Skittarii Centurion - completed

I was able to finish off the paintjob on my Skittarii Centurion last week, and here it is. I tried to match a lot of the colors/finishes from my Thallax constructs and Knight. I'm pretty happy with the result.

And here's a comparison shot of him standing next to Volsinii Imperator.

Cheers
Dave

  1. okay, that's a pretty cool use for some terrible models. Great conversion and execution!

    2. Thanks guys. GW has been pretty good recently about putting out models that have great individual elements, but don't quite work together in the stock format.

  2. A very imaginative use of the Centurion model. Paint work is top notch as always.

  4. A much better use for those Centurion models! Great work

  5. Wow, they fit together wonderfully! I really like the burnished bronze look of the centurion, and its blank face. A great use of a pretty questionable model!

    1. Thanks Godwyn, I think matching them up closely with my Mechanicum stuff helps a lot.

  6. These are great. Agree with Zab.. nice conversions compared to the original. And I like the paint jobs on them as they fit this better as well.

    1. Thanks MR Lee. I think the originally portrayed color schemes were a bit too saturated for such a large area of infantry model (the blues, yellows, etc).

  7. Awesome idea!
And so "Ad Mech" looking... I love it!

I'll make my Plaguebone Obliterators with the Centurions, definitely.

  8. how did you make the heads on them? I think that alone makes them look much better

    1. Thanks Blaise. The head is a Space Marine shoulder pad at the front, and an IG shoulder pad at the back (one from a Command Squad sprue). Simple stuff but it matched my Mechanicum models well.

  9. Far better than the original design... as per usual where you are concerned. :)

  10. Fantastic work, Dave! My favourite part has to be how the model matches both your army's look and that of the new FW AdMech automata!

Having messed around with the Centurions for a while now, in an attempt to build some Obliterators for my World Eaters, I have to say that the kit does have some promise. And you've been one of the first artists to actually prove that. Great job, as usual!

    1. Thanks for that. Loved the post you just did on DFG, nice work all round.

  11. I love what you did with this model Dave. Fantastic.

Now that you've incorporated the black rounded face plate on a bunch of your Ad Mech machines I wonder how it would look to do that with the two separate hemispheres of the "head" of that knight. It could suck but it would create added continuity. Trying it out at this stage would be risky if you didn't like it but the idea appeals to me conceptually.

    1. Thanks Nick. I was thinking that could be a possibility the first time around, but when I decided on the hammered bronze look, I textured the plating. It wouldn't work to do it now. Perhaps if I do a second knight I might try it out. ; )

  12. Looking great. Totally inspiring as always! I am a huge fan of the Grey Knight walker-thingy... name escapes me, and using it as a base for this conversion is excellent.

On some of the comments above, I like that the black face plates aren't ubiquitous. It helps differentiate between the different units a little.

  13. Hey Dave. How do the forge world Castellax and Centurions compare size wise? I have 3 Castellax that im either going to convert to Centurions or Iron clad dreads (for my iron hands) depending on what they are closer to size wise . Love your work been following for a while.

  14. Hi, new user here, and I've been looking around your fantastic armies. Gotta say this Centurions looks much more badass than the original pin head Space Marines!

Got brought here by your Tanith comission, is that still going? Seems you haven't done any in a while. If your client backed out, I'd be happy to see you finish them ;)

    Thanks!

  15. Hey there, Dave! I wanted to say that I did something very similar here, only I left the fists and didn't use the drills at all. I ended up magnetizing the shoulder weapons, allowing them to pivot (just because it looks neat) and also switch them from Dev to Assault troops. Shoulder-mounted melta or flamers look pretty sweet as well!

  16. Just a small quastion: is this conversion usable as a battle castallax automata? Or do you need to make the centurion bigger???
