Vroom! Vroom! - Nux car under construction.

Obviously, one of the coolest Fury Road cars is the Nux car. It is generally noted as being a '32 five-window Ford coupe, but it turns out that it's actually a '33 or '34 Chevy. Anyway, tracking down something suitable in 1:64 scale is a pain in the butt.

I was incredibly lucky to stumble upon this beauty while I was away in Europe (in a cool toy shop in Florence). It's not the same (the roof has been lowered for a start) but it's the closest I've come to the original, so it's the one I'm going with : )

I've just started messing around with the thundersticks, so they are currently blu-tacked in. I'll adjust their lengths to match the top picture and glue them in once the car is painted.

The fleet continues to grow!

Cheers
Dave

  1. Wow that is the closest rendition of the Nux car I've seen. Very awesome my friend!

    1. Thanks, Tim. The roof height and front axle position are little niggles, but it's pretty darn close : )

    2. That's something only the creator will notice. as we're often overly critical of ourselves...

    1. I hope I have the time, and that the rules allow 1:64 scale. Although I now have a 1:54 scale '32 Ford coupe that could pass for the Nux car that'd love to create as a display piece. And include Nux, Slit, and Max strapped to the lancer's perch : )

    1. Also, I didn't do any raising or lowering of the axle on this one, but rather switched out the stock axle for something a bit wider, that way the tires could sit outside of the body at the rear.

  6. Wow that's looking epic... I'm in awe at how you recreated the twists and turns of the exhaust system.

    1. Thanks, Phil. The exhausts were certainly the toughest part. I used 1.6mm plastic rod, cut four equal lengths, shaped them with my fingers, and then started to flatten out the ends that would rest closest to the car body. It's that last stage that's the trickiest.

  8. One thing I really miss in this scale, is the crew and drivers. Any plans to add Slit, the Bloodbag and Nux? or even just Slit?

    1. Not for this one, but I would certainly appreciate a range of warboys and others at this scale. I have a 1:54th scale car I'm going to convert for a display piece, I'll be adding crew to it : )

    2. Fuck yeah! DO IT!

What about using 15mm figures in these cars?

    3. I think 20mm would be much closer, they're basically 1:72, the Hot Wheels etc are nominally 1:64

  9. I've been trying to find a good ringer for Nux' car too, but have failed so far. You seem to have found the perfect one. Do you happen to remember what that particular Hotwheels car is called? Also, if you are looking for a ringer for the "Elvis" car in the movie, the Hotwheels car "Way 2 Fast" is a pretty good fit.

    1. The car I'm using for this is actually not from Hot Wheels/Matchbox, but from Maisto. Sadly neither the packaging or car itself have any indication which it is (at least that I can remember), so I'd suggest you try online and/or eBay searches. Hope that works.

    2. It looks like a Maisto 1/64 'fresh metal' 1934 Ford hot rod

  10. What Material/item are you using for the Thundersticks?
