Solar Auxilia - Lasrifle Sections

Here's the first of three Lasrifle Sections. I won't really show you the other two, as they're essentially the same. These are an amalgamation of three standard Vostroyan IG squads, as my standard squads included special and heavy weapons.

I decided to cobble together four Vexilia Bearers for my Lasrifle Sections, so I now have one ready for when I decide to build a fourth Section (it's looking pretty likely). I used some old shields as the icon backgrounds, and showed the exposed wood to the front to give a strong visual link to the lasrifles. I'm yet to paint battle honors onto the metal plates

On the back of the shields I added some identifiers for each Lasrifle Section.

I hope the New Year is being good to you. I'm ready to get into a LOT more Solar Auxilia very soon : )

Cheers
Dave

  2. How did you achieve that faded affect on the numbers?

  3. Hi Scott,

I painted the discs first, from a deep red to a bright red. I then put the number decals on (gloss varnish, then the decal, then gloss varnish, then satin varnish). Finally, sponged on a little dark brown to break up the strong contrast of the white against the dark red.

    I hope that helps : )

  4. Inspiring stuff yet again. I really don't know how you maintain the level of quality at the pace you achieve!

    1. Thanks Michael. I already had the infantry painted, so it wasn't really too tough to get the Vexilias done : )

  6. Excellent work on the Vexilia Bearers!

I like the idea of using Vostroyans for a HEresy Era army, their archaic look suits the theme perfectly ;)
