Volsinii Imperator - complete


Well, it took a little longer than I originally expected, but asking advice from various folks (you, my kind readers, included) have made for a piece all the better for it.

When last we spoke, I was uncertain about the "face" of the Knight and was contemplating an icon of some kind. Over the weekend I was in Austin for WarGamesCon and spoke with Mondel "GAR" Garcia, who sent me down a different track. We chatted about brightening up the front of the plate, and deepening the shadows to make it pop more. While most of the shading was done with thinned brown, black, and green, GAR suggested adding in some blue (the complimentary color of the "orange" brass). It certainly worked well and I'm pleased with the final results.

    I certainly think it looks "Servitor-y" enough. Doesn't need a "face".

    Excellent model, a worthy centrepiece.

    Thanks to your blog, I am now forming plans for converting an army of machine-creatures myself. Devout follower of Chaos that I am, it'd be a Dark Mechanicus army of course.

    That is one badass robot. Great job!
    Very impressive conversion and a really slick paintjob to boot!

    You might want to slap some white or red paint on the cog- trim on the shin armour though... To separate them a bit from the main armour. They seem a little overlooked at the mo.

      Thanks Jeff, I'm still not sure about the white, but perhaps some more blue shading might pop them out more, much like the faceplate.

    Simply fantastic, in the line of all your army. I was wrong with regard to the detail in the altar frontal, since you have left it it is perfect. Great work Dave, and the last photo is a marvel. Regards.

    What a beautiful build - very well done. Though amazing as it is I still think that some sort of focal point/eyes/optics on the "faceplate" would have added to the overall look.
    I really love the subtle colors you have used on the bits - shield/warning stripe areas/scrolls and so on - fits perfectly. For some strange reason my favourite bit is the yellow pneumatic container or what ever they are - that is simply a genius area to add color.
