Result!

So, the qualifier at the store yesterday was a good result for me! Not only was there another competitor, but he was a nice guy who had done some great work. Neither of us had an entourage to vote for us (unlike other locations, I hear) so it came down to a close 6 to 5 vote.

Above you can see the tarted-up photo I shot last night under my lights. Below is the best shot I got of Jon Cosper's Salamanders on my phone on the day. I didn't lug my good camera and tripod there as it seemed I might be the only entrant, so my apologies to Jon.

I took a few other shots of some of the cool elements of Jon's army, including his Techmarine Dreadnought. I'll post those up in the next couple of days.

Also coming will be some more photos of my War Altar of Morr, completed on Friday night with the addition of five more "pushers". The base (actually two bases glued together) and chains are from Dragon Forge, thanks for the support Jeff!

And with Leitpold The Black completed, I should be able to squeeze out another post for this pompous and arrogant miniature (you'll see what I mean when you see his face).

See you in Chicago!

Cheers
Dave

  2. What should i say :) I really like your entry for the Armies of Parade. And, in my opinion, yours look nicer than the Salamanders Army !

  4. Congrats Dave, you've done an amazing job getting this ready in time, the only real shame is that your competition in store looked liked they deserved more of a viewing too. Glad you'll be showing us more pics of it, and yours too of course.

With the potential for rigged voting, AoP sounds like it needs a different system - random regional voting really isn't getting the best armies to Games Day.

    1. Apparently there's a new system for Games Day voting, so I guess we'll see how that goes.

  5. Hi Dave,

Wonderful army! Your display is very characterful, that's definitely the best Empire army I've ever seen

    Congrats!

  6. Congrats Dave! This year's entry look great. I look forward to seeing it in person. I had the green and yellow 'Nids last year, and I won my qualifier yesterday...just a 380 mile road trip to get to a GW store! I could have done without yesterday's link to James Wappel's new entry. So, drinks after Games Day so we can brainstorm how one of us can try to beat Wappel next year? Mikal Werre

    1. Hi Mikal, I think the only way to beat James is for us to keep doing our best and wait for him to sleep in. Patience, this might take a while ; )

    2. Patience I get, but I'm not sure I've got that much time! I'm already over 40! :)

  8. It's too bad that Salamanders Army had to go up against yours, it does look very nice. As for yours Dave, Awesome. I've followed your project from concept to completion and and I have to say you pulled it off brilliantly. I look forward to seeing this in White Dwarf soon.

  9. Congratulations! As nice as the Salamanders were, I firmly believe that your army should have gotten Morr votes.

Cathy obeserved the voting at our store, where the focus was all about 6th edition 40k. AoP was very much a sideshow. When it finaly came time to vote, people would look at the Tomb Kings and say "pretty", but then notice the other army and say "40k!!!" and put a dice on it. I would not be surprised if that was happening in your store...

  16. A bit of topic Dave, but where do you get your MDF bases from that you use for your Napoleonic units??

    Thanks,
    Jason

    1. Hi Jason, the bases are from the GF9 econobases we sell at conventions in the US (like Historicon, Cold Wars, Adepticon, etc)
