Cold, dark, and...Steel Legion?

The Steel Legion, by Adrian Smith - © Games Workshop, used without permission

Well, recently my mother was here for a very welcome visit. Not much hobby time, but plenty of fun with my daughter and adventures on the weekends. During this time we noticed a leaking pipe in the basement, a heating pipe that runs over my hobby desk and will need replacing. This is going to happen on Friday, but cleanup and moving of said desk will happen before that, and then I'll be putting it all back in place over the weekend. Not much hobby time there either, I'm afraid. So as it'll be cold (and the short, rainy days are making for a lot of darkness) there won't be a lot of hobby goodness for the next week or so.

Enter the Steel Legion Army Writing Competition!

In the meantime, I want to kick off a competition. Next year I'll be involved in a project that requires a 3,000 point Steel Legion army. What I need is an army list for the Steel Legion (Mechanized Imperial Guard) that contains 3,000 points worth of goodness. A list that is perfect for Apocalypse games, but has core elements that would work great at 1,500, 1,750, and 1,850 points so that it can be used in competitive play.

That's it, I just need you to write up an army list and submit it. Deadline: December 31st!

You can submit it to my email address (in my profile on the side of this blog) and to re-acquaint yourself with the Steel Legion you can check out their Lexicanium entry here.

Not sure what the prize will be yet, but I'm sure it'll be Imperial Guard related. Hopefully something cool ; )

Have fun and stay warm!

Cheers
Dave

  1. Solid contest Dave, Sorry to hear about the pipes. I wish I could say I can relate but only problems I have ever had to have fixed were electric. At least though you got some great time with family right:).

  2. Awesome contest, I'll make a list as it may give me the kick in the arse I need to pull out the 200 Steel Legion models I have in a ziploc bag. So, I'll write a list for this and me, win, win. Thanks.

  3. 3000 for Apocalypse... it should include a StormLord, the perfect accompaniment to all those chimeras.

  4. Grand idea, I'm a Legion player from the get go. Simple question, do we post in comment and do you wnat variations such as Spearhead options?

Mmmmm, even if you didn't choose my list, I'm giddy at the thought of penciling one together with this as an inspiration.

As always, you are pure hobby inspiration!

  5. Hi guys

The plumbers are banging away on the pipes as we speak, loudly I might add.

@Brother Armand - just send me your list (to the email address in my profile) and I'll add it to the growing pile of lists (six so far, all quite good). It just needs to be 3,000 points. It could have Apocalypse units in it, or Spearhead options, but it should also have enough models to field 1,500 - 1,850 points worth of army in a competitive environment.

    Cheers
    Dave

  6. Sorry to hear about the leaking pipe but good to know it is repairable.

I've sumbmitted a list as well as a somewhat lengthy disertation on my reasons for selecting the units I did. I can be wordy if I'm not paying attention. :)

Regardless if my list is selected, I did find it an interesting exercise to try and craft a list that had to meet so many different factors and I was pleased by what I came up with.

    Thanks,
    Thomas (BrningHalo)

  9. Well I'm feeling kind of sheepish.

This whole time I've been searching for a link, and there it was in plain text.

  10. Are you wanting the list to be just Steel Legion? Or may we add units from other regiments which would fit the theme?
