Behind those shields, boys!
You'll notice a bit of a theme over the next few months in my personal hobby posts. I'll be switching gears back and forth between building and painting units for either: a) my Death Guard, b) my Mechanicum, and c) my Solar Auxilia. The theme will, of course, be the Horus Heresy era.
Anyway, here are a the first ten of my Breacher squad that I managed to complete last weekend. I have another nine assembled, I just need to get my hands on one more, possibly the FW Breacher Marine event special (if anyone has a spare).
And I have finally put together a squad of Heavy Support Death Guard rocking the Volkite Culverins. Their Heavy 4 firepower and Deflagrate special rule will make them especially dangerous against lightly armored opponents : )
Cheers

Digging out a behemoth.
After taking a look through the Horus Heresy Book Four: Conquest from Forgeworld, I've definitely decided to repurpose my Vostroyans as Solar Auxilia. Once the Imperial Army list rolls around, I'm sure I could swing them back to acting as regular grunts too, but for now, they'll be the elite of the standard human troopers.
One thing that's fun in the Solar Auxilia list is that you can take a Solar Auxilia Tank commander and add him to a pretty wide variety of vehicles, including super-heavies. He transfers his Ballistic Skill of 4 to the rest of the crew, which means that when you add him to the Stormlord super-heavy, the Vulcan Mega-blolter (which is a 60" range, S6, AP3, Heavy 15 weapon) will hit, on average, ten times. Or 20 times if you remain stationary in the movement phase, allowing you to shoot twice! With additional weapons onboard, you could comfortably wipe out a 20-man squad of Marines each turn. Fierce!
So, with visions of torrents of fire raining down on the heads of my opponents, I dug out an old conversion of mine. I converted this Baneblade into a Stormlord as soon as the data sheet was released, a couple of years before GW made the actual model now found in their online store. Of course, as soon as I finished it, I moved on to a different project and never painted it.
But now...

Very Thankful!
Gather your friends and family close to celebrate.
As the US prepares for Thanksgiving (the annual holiday of family and gratitude that has been perverted by numerous capitalist ventures over recent years), I'd like to take this opportunity and thank all of the companies and individuals who have helped me make Dave Taylor Miniatures a viable capitalist venture of its very own (although not one that'll be sending its employee to work on Turkey Day).
I would like to thank - in no particular order - the following miniatures businesses (or groups) for their patronage, and urge you to check them out over the coming year:
• Secret Weapon Miniatures
• Infamy Miniatures
• Brigade Games
• AdeptiCon
• Dragon Forge Design
• Grindhouse Games
• Victoria Miniatures
• Wargames Illustrated
• Ninja Division
• Ironheart Artisans
• World's End Publishing
• Broken Toad
• Geek Nation Tours
• Mindworm Games
Additionally, I'd like to thank the following commission patrons for their support:
• Anthony Snukis - Tanith
• Brien Dulaney - Infinity and Napoleonics
• Chet Chislom - Conversions
• Dave Pauwels - Assembly
• Hank Edley - Imperial Knights
• Jake Schneider - FOW Tanks (WIP)
• Jason Duffee - FOW Americans
• Phil Bronson - FOW Germans
• Teras Cassidey - Conversions
• Dean Clarke - Napoleonics (WIP)
To all those celebrating, Happy Turkey Day!
To those who are not, Happy Thursday!
Cheers

Foodhammer 2014
Although things have been a bit tough recently (car problems and a wicked cold that laid me out over the weekend), I wanted to take the time to drawn your attention to the fine folks at Fresh Coast Gaming who are organizing Foodhammer 2014. They've run this event in Michigan for the last few years and are ready to rock out again on December 6th!
I'll be seeing off these two beasties to join their massive (and growing) prize pool. I worked on these models back in the day of the GW US Studio team, and both have appeared in WD. The Lictor on the right was actually painted up to go into the 4th Edition Tyranid Codex (I think), but was beaten out (appropriately so) by Victoria Lamb's atmospheric piece.
Anyway, if you are in Michigan and are looking for something to do, please check out the excellent Foodhammer event!
Cheers

AdeptiCon 2015 is Coming!
Well, next March is the actual event, but I wanted to point out that the registration for AdeptiCon 2015 is only a few days away! On Monday November 24, at 8pm Central time (that's 2am Tuesday morning for you folks in the UK) to events web cart will go live. Many events at AdeptiCon sell out on the first night and many more over the following days, so I heartily recommend you check out the event listing so that you can be ready when the crew flip the switch! The AdeptiCon team are using a new, more robust system, so it's worth taking a few moments to familiarize yourself with it.
To check out the listing of over 280 events, click HERE.
This year, for the first time ever, I'll be running two Hobby classes (well, technically it's the same content, just at two different times). That's right, I'm running the Liber Metallica: Dave Taylor Edition on the Saturday and Sunday morning.
Quite a few people have asked me questions about my metallics over the years, so I figured this was a good opportunity to present my thoughts on the topic of true metallics. I hope to see you there.
Cheers
Dave
