BLOOD BOWL - The resurrection of the Black Gulf Buccaneers continues!

Just a quick update. I've completed a few more conversions for the Black Gulf Buccaneers (a redux of my 1994 Human Pirate team). Here's a Lineman with his torso twisted and shoulders hunched. He'll look great on the line!

You can't have a Pirate team without a hook hand and wooden leg. This is a reprise of Werner One-Leg, a Lineman who, despite his reduced movement, has scored him fair share of touchdowns!

A Norse Blitzer, Karl Wulfen, returns to take the ball and run with it!

Da Anchor! I originally modeled this guy with an anchor sticking through his helmet, just like the original created 22 years ago. A comment on the Blood Bowl Community FB page got me thinking, so I decided to switch things up for this edition. He is now carrying a more hefty anchor in his right hand. More photos of that once he's painted up : )

And finally, for this batch at least, here's my new version of my old team hero, Francois D'Atant. A head swap and some repositioning go the standard catcher's arms and I've got myself a pretty unique model!

Hope you all enjoy these. Probably no more posts this year. I'm off to Australia for Christmas. See you all in 2017!

Cheers

GENESTEALER CULT - A photo update and a distraction (BLOOD BOWL).

No video for this update, just some photos. A few people asked that I post the photos of my finished models so far. Well, here is the first squad of Neophyte Hybrids. I have 30 more of these guys to paint, which will take a little while, but won't feel like a chore. The 3rd and 4th generation hybrids are the ones that really draw me to the Genestealer Cult. I'm not sure why, but they do. Perhaps you can speculate in the comments section?

I finished this unit of Aberrants over the Thanksgiving weekend. I like them a lot. The pale/purplish skin works really well with the pale/yellowish carapace.

And here's a shot of the bad of one of the Aberrants. I got to push my highlights and shadows a bit more with their muscular backs.

Next on the docket is another squad of Neophytes. After I prime the models black, I hit them with a strong white coat of primer from above (about a 45˚ angle). The next step, which you can see in this photo, is where I hit all the armor/carapace with a layer of GW's Seraphim Sepia wash.

I would have had a little more done on these guys if I hadn't been distracted. Last Friday I (like many others, I'm sure) picked up the latest edition of Blood Bowl. In a fit of nostalgia, I have decided to re-create the Human team that I did back in 1994 when BB 3rd edition was released (the edition this one is very closely based on). Meet the Black Gulf Buccaneers! I've had quite a bit of fun converting these models. An arm twist here, a torso twist there, and head swaps galore; these pirates stand ready to take to the nearest Blood Bowl pitch (after a good coat of paint, of course).

I can only hope that Francois D'Atant, one of my catchers, can rise to the same giddy heights that he did back in the days of the Blood Bowl league in GW Newcastle (Australia).

GENESTEALER CULT - Part 2, the update!

It has been a little while. I find it tough to get into a rhythm with my videos so this is just a quick one describing where I'm at and showing a few photos of the status.

I'll try to film another one this coming weekend. Thank you all for your patience!

GENESTEALER CULT - The start of the project.

It was a busy week, so I had to wait until today to editing and process the first video for the Genestealer Cult project.

I hope you like it. Please post any questions or comments you have below : )

DARK AGE - Here comes Mongo!

The first "miniature" that attracted me to Dark Age was this guy, Mongo. I bought him at AdeptiCon one year. My once-a-year purchase of a miniature that I had every intention of carefully assembling and then painting to the best of my ability.

It took me quite a few years to get there, but I recently finished him up for use in my games of Dark Age. I had a lot of fun, particularly with the large expanses of pale flesh - I think I'm improving on my flesh painting but these photos make the transitions look a bit more stark than they actually are.

Anyway, while I'm filming some content for the next series of projects, I thought you might like to see some more recent stuff : )

Decisions have been made!

Thanks very much for all your excellent suggestions. I'm ready to get started on a few new projects and filming some more "discussion" style videos, so that it's a bit easier to understand how I think about/plan out my projects. If you have any questions about these new projects, please click on the link below and start asking away.

So, what's next? What should I work on?

It has been quite a while since I completed the Warlord Titan build. I've not recorded a video since, so maybe it is time to get back on the horse. What do you fine readers want to see?

WRATH OF KINGS - My Nasier collection

Sooooooooo busy! Working 60+ hours a week and raising two crazy kids. But enough of my excuses. MOAR toy soldiers!

Over the past nine months I've been working part-time for CoolMiniOrNot, anywhere from one to two weeks out of each month, focusing on marketing and promotional planning for Dark Age and Wrath of Kings. I know I've posted some of my Dark Age minis before, but not my WOK stuff.

Well, today that changes. I've ben in a bit of a frenzy lately, painting up the second half of my Nasier collection so that I can take it with me over to see the team at Beasts of War. That's right, we'll be filming a bunch of videos about Wrath of Kings and I wanted to have PLENTY of options to discuss with the guys.

So, here they all are, ready to be packed away into a suitable travel case.

Above are my Ashmen Swordsmen, with two Ashmen Hakars (their leaders).

Here are my Pelegarth Bloodmasks, with two Pelegarth Howls (their leaders).

And above are my first Rank 2 Infantry, the Fel Hammers, led by one of The Unmasked.

These are my current Rank 1 Specialists. From left to right: The Longhorn, Arkazan Greatwing, and the Rathor.

These are my recently completed Rank 2 Specialists. From left to right: Shadrus Arikim, The Bloodchild, and the Blind Hakar.

And finally, my Rank 2 Leaders. From left to right: Elsis Tagil, Alyana Heska, and Arkan Thesh.

Wrath of Kings is a great game, where your tactical decisions on the tabletop can make or break your game. No unit is unstoppable, here's a counter to everything, ad good decision making is key.

Also, CMON provides the rules and units cards for free on the WOK website, if you want to check it out HERE : )

SAGA - A 6pt Saracens Warband

And finally, this Saracen warband. After the limited palette of the Crusaders, it was nice to be able to break out a wide variety of colors for these models. As with earlier warbands, the shield decals were from Little Big Men Studios.

I hope you've enjoyed this big batch of SAGA stuff : )

SAGA - A 6pt Crusader Warband

And here are the Crusaders, second to last SAGA warband for this hefty commission. My client wanted to go with a Hospitalier look, and for a minute I thought I'd be painting lots of white! A quick Google search and I discovered I was looking at lots of black : )

Final war band will be on the blog tomorrow!

SAGA - A 6pt Skraelings Warband

Warband number two for my big SAGA commission are these Skraelings. Lovely sculpts from Footsore miniatures, a fairly straightforward color scheme, and hordes of spear-wielding braves created quite a nice looking warband on the tabletop.

Yep, that's 12 archers and 40 spearmen!

Next up, Crusaders : )
