My first game of Malifaux...

Well, it's my first ever game of Malifaux tonight. I'll be using some combination of the models in this post. Wish me luck! ; )

Cheers
Dave

  6. Beautiful paint jobs! How did you find the plastic models to paint? It looks like there are lots of flatter areas where you added detail and depth with paint.

    1. Thanks Cameron. I enjoyed painting them, Actually this set has a lot of sculpted detail, all of those clothing folds are really there, and the details themselves are very fine and crisp.

  8. Very nice paintjobs on these. I've also been recently working on this crew and have to admit these are some of the best sculpts in the range. Good luck in your game!

    1. Thanks Viruk. Your crew are coming along nicely. I like the way you're switching up some of the colors.

  9. Great looking models and painted extremely well! Have fun playing Malifaux. I just started playing the game a few weeks ago myself and have really enjoyed it.

  11. If you start to lose give me a call and I'll tell your opponent that the rules changed.

    1. Thanks Mack, I was winning when we called the game, but I have a feeling that Rasputina and her Snow Storm were going to rake me over the tundra. I have a lot to learn in the coming weeks!

  12. Excellent looking models, with a fine paint job! I just started playing Malifaux, and have been thoroughly impressed by it. By using a deck of cards it removes the element of dice, which speeds things up, and with the combination of your control hand, gives you a lot more control over what happens in the game (which is refreshing). I feel by using the different suits to trigger abilities is also clever and allows a lot more of the personality of the characters to shine through, giving the actually gameplay much more of a narrative feel then most miniature games I have played.

Regardless, I hope you have fun, it should be a joy with such nice models!

    1. Thanks Eric. This is first game I've played where absolutely no dice are involved, and I didn't do enough preparation beforehand, so I was weirded out during the learning process. I'll be sure to pass on my thoughts in another post.

  13. Finally, I see some of the new plastics actually well-painted :) Wyrd dropped the ball on that, IMHO.

You'll need to post us a bat-rep, y'know. Good luck and have fun.

    1. I think Wyrd's approach to presenting painted minis is an odd one (certainly something of an anomaly for their level of success). I'm sure there's a reason for it.

      Not sure it'll be a bat-rep, but I'll certainly express my thoughts. ; )

  14. Great stuff as always Dave but these look to me like some of your best paint jobs so far!!

The guy on the horse, the guy with the turban and the guy with the hammer are simply brilliant - the hammer guys grey suit is fantastic - have you used a purple to shade it?

    1. Thanks FM. The guy with the hammer was my first one from this crew painted. His grey suit has some brown and some P3 Sanguine Base pushed into the shading. That was the first time I tried that approach out. I'm yet to become fully comfortable with it, but I'm learning.

  15. As everyone has stated, the paint jobs on these models are absolutely fantastic.

And like everyone else, I'm anxious to hear your thoughts on the game. They certainly make some gorgeous models but between the card system and the feeling that they sort of crammed a dozen genres into one game I've been sort of standoffish towards it. Haha.

    1. Thanks Nick! I think the game will grow on me, but it'll take a bit to scale the steep learning curve. As for the "multiple genres" thing, I'm not too worried by it at all.

I described the game to my wife as being set in a "gothic horror/wild west/steampunk/fantasy" setting. She immediately asked if there were Will Smith and Kevin Kline models (ala Wild, Wild West). I laughed and pointed out that the movie only covered two genres and wasn't trying hard enough ; )
