More WIP on the Knight

Here's the current state of play on my Knight. The brassy bronze is finished, the silver metallics are almost complete, and a number of the details are complete too.

While at Kublacon, I asked the opinion of a few painter friends and the answer to the "dark or bright" question was, not truly surprisingly, "Both". I've approached it all as another, slightly zenithal, thing. Imagining a stronger light source from above, my upwards-facing surfaces are bright silver, while the shadows are quite dark/matte. As you gone further down the model, the metallics become less bright, perhaps with only a thin, glinting edge here and there.

These last two shots show that idea a little more, but also show the soot-blackened exhaust pipes and the rivets picked out in shiny silver.

Back to the grind ; )

Cheers
Dave

  1. I like your use of yellow as the spot color there. It really makes the mini pop out. Me gusta mucho.

  4. Looking good, I do like a bit of yellow here and there.

Couple of quick questions, the first (you may have answered this already, i'm a bit behind peoples blog posts) is will the 'face' be getting anything else paintwise to act as a focus or are you going for a faceless & implacable look (like the FW models of later in fact)?

And second will you be tempted with the upcoming 'Lord of Battle Mk II' to convert into an Admechy construction?

    1. Hi Rictus, I hadn't planned on adding to the "face" as it were, I wanted it be "faceless". But you are right about a focal point (or possibly lacking one). Once I get it all finished, I might add a damaged white stencil/icon on the "head" area somewhere like a campaign badge. Something with a cog and skull/or lightning bolt perhaps?

    3. Yeah, I like the idea of adding a white icon of some kind. Something like a campaign badge incorporating a cog of somekind would be perfact i think. Reminds me of the artwork showing campaign badges on Titans etc we used to see when WD had Epic content...

  5. A very good work, I am necessary to incorporate some type of logo in the altar frontal believe that it would be a great idea.

    A greeting. Eli.

  6. Looking good Dave - Agree with those above on the yellow - those parts are what jump out at me.

Like Rictus, not completely sold on the solid faceless front plate - its just a lot of bronze to look at - a badge or some design would break it up a bit and give it some pizazz. Throwing an idea out there, the cogged banding could look good in another colour.

Same goes for the knee pads and ankle protectors - it just looks a bit to bronzey.

The yellow though on the rear housings - Wow - great fade up from the darker base, and awesome chipping effect.

    1. Thanks Sam, I painted and shaded the whole piece first, then sponged on some Charred Brown. I then tidied to up with a paint brush, then highlighted with some yellow mixed with Pale Sand.

  9. I might have missed it in earlier posts but what are you considering for the other arm? CC weapon or another ranged weapon. Can't recall what the ones in Mechanicum were sporting. Great conversion.

    1. I think the ones in Mechanicum had a blade of sorts, but mine will have a shock lance. You can see it in this post:
