Mechanicon! and some Tanith

The Mechanicon 40K GT is just around the corner, literally. In just under three weeks Tony, Jeremy, Jim and the rest of the crew will be running a growing Grand Tournament in the "old school" style. You can find out more about the show by checking out their website here.

This year the guys are running another charity auction. Last year I offered up painting a 28mm miniature of the winners choice. Jim Warrington won the auction, and I painted up this Vulkan He'staan for him. We are both pretty happy with it. So, for this show I'm offering up the same thing (a 28mm painted model of the winners choice that is). Get along to the show, have fun playing some great games of 40K, and bid early and often on all the prizes the crew will be gathering for the charity auction!

And here's an update on the Gaunt's Ghost project I've been pottering around with. Above you can see the finished Veteran squad, lead by Scout Sergeant Mkoll. The squad is equipped with two sniper rifles, a meltagun, and camo cloaks. Below is a closeup of some of their tattoos.

Below are the three sniper teams I did for the project. Although the snipers are from a Special Weapon squad and would typically be based individually, but the client and I talked about it and we figured I could tell more of a story on the larger, 60mm bases.

From left to right: Mad Larkin, Nessa Bourah, and Jessi Banda.

Cheers
Dave

  2. Absolutly Brilliant
I never thought you could make decent Ghosts with the Two plastic IG kits but you, proved otherwise.
Are the capes pure g/s or a mix of g/s and sm scout
or is there an option 3?

  3. Thanks guys

@Allandaros - Rawne is scheduled for the next batch,

@BigWill - All the capes are greenstuff except for one of the snipers in the Vet squad. His comes from the Cadian Command squad sniper model.

    Cheers

  4. Very nice,
must say its a VAST improvement from the tanith i remember you having on show way back when in 1 of the aussie WDs ;)
I personally dont like using GS for making camo cloaks, so what ive used in the past was plastic fly wire. It takes a bit of super glue and alot of holding to get it to shape well but it works.
Lately though i stumbled on a gold mine for cloaks, has the most natural flow of any material i have yet used, yet i dont know what the stuffs called...
Will post some pics up on my blog http://conceptstorealities.blogspot.com/ within a few days to show you what it looks like.
Keep up the good work, and if you get the chance swing by my blog and leave a comment or 2, wouldnt mind some input from a fellow 'pacter :D

  5. Love the Vulkan Dave! I am going to borrow your method of painting the lava on the bottom of the cape. Nice stuff! And yes, I will be at Mechanicon. They ran a great tournament. I actually bid on your painted model item, but was too focused on winning a light saber to go for the win on yours. :) Jawaballs

  7. Those Tanith look terrible. You should get rid of them. I'd be willing to take the terrible, terrible, FANTASTIC models off your hands...

    :)

  8. Where did you get the scopes for the lasguns of the Tarnith Veteran Squad? Also, did you use Cadian arms and just shave off the shoulder guards? Where did you get all the fancy bitz from? The Tarnith look spectacular by the way. Spot on.

  9. Mr. Taylor, I was wondering specifically where you acquired the bitz for the Tarnith Straight silver and the scopes you used on the las-rifles. I'd like to make my own scout squad of tarnith soon. Thank you so much. Again, the Tarnith are stunning to behold!
