Over the past week I've been putting a bit more work in on converting the Blood Pact Troopers. Once I'd started on adding the grotesques to the flagellant heads (thanks for the prompting CMDante) I wanted to push each model a little bit further. Here are the next 10 Troopers for the army and a close-up of the latest sergeant added to the group.
A few people have asked me how I made the bases on these guys. Well, this group of ten actually use the 25mm rounds from Dragon Forge Design's Urban Wasteland II series. With all the time I spent converting each of these six-point guys I figured I could treat myself to some ready-made bases that look great too. You can check out more of Jeff's bases here.
In addition to the troopers I spent most of yesterday working on my Stalk Tank. It was certainly a lot of fun getting back to this model and I think I'm close to getting to the detailing stage. Here are a few of the latest shots.
That mantis machine rocks. I am officially a plastic convert!

Great looking work, as always Dave! I wouldn't expect any less from you.

Your stuff is looking great, dude! You should know that the Alpha Legion CSMs you converted a while back are going into action this summer at a tournament in Singapore. Take it easy!
ReplyDeleteJeff B.
Thanks guys!
ReplyDeleteBrooksy, I'd completely forgotten about those. Have fun at the tournament and good luck with the Legio.
Cheers
Dave
wow Dave, i'm impressed
ReplyDeletei have a few Blood Pact i've been working on, but i've been lagging for a while though, you've really inspired me to carry on
just a thought, i really like the Mantis but isnt it meant to have 6 legs and how are you going to use in in the game? not a criticism just curious
keep up the good work
Hi Seventh-son
ReplyDeleteYep, there are still two legs to add to the body (forward of the current four) these will be the "praying" legs as it were. In the concept art these legs are tiny compared to the real life praying mantis so I'm still undecided on which way I want to go.
As for using it in the game, not sure yet. Perhaps I'll have to come up with an Apocalypse Datasheet for a trio of these monsters?
Once I've worked something out I'll throw it up here.
Keep up the work on the Pact, we should really get a groundswell of Pact armies going (or continuing)!
Cheers
Dave
wow, cheers for getting back to me so quickly dave, thats awesome
ReplyDeletei have built a couple of AT-70 Reavers using an Ork Gunwagon for forgeworld and a Basalisk, that was expensive, i have a handful of troops and the usual, and 10 Rough Riders to paint up... for now
your right, you dont see much love given to the Blood Pact or any of dans armies which is a shame, i'd love to do a Sons of Sek and hell i might, depending on what the plastic storm troopers look like...
The stalk tank is fantastic! I'm really looking forwards to seeing it in-game.
ReplyDeleteAs for rules, do you have anything in mind? I can see them as big Sentinels, or perhaps Hellhounds.
Err, allow me to correct myself. I'm looking forwards to seeing it finished.
ReplyDeleteFantastic stuff as always. Blood Pact's been on my to-do list for at least 5 years. I actually did a single squad as a test back then, and never took it any further as other projects crowded it out. You can see them at:

Seeing yours has inspired me to look at it again. There's a lot more resources available now, such as the Forgeworld conversion kits and the head sets from Maxmini, West Wind and Pig Iron.
I particularly like your stalk-tank. I don't have the patience or skill for scratch building so I'm planning to base mine off the Airfix Robogear Spider. It will be more spider/scorpion based than mantis, but I think that will work just as well, particularly as I've fallen in love with the new Forgeworld Brass Scorpion.
Anyway, I'll be watching with great interest, and no doubt shamelessly stealing ideas.
