Busy, busy, busy!

It has been a very busy week. It's amazing how much time you can sink into one of these Imperial Knights, let alone two of them.

Cheers
Dave

PS. Apologies for the poor cell phone photo.

  1. Looking good, Dave! Yeah that's a lot of surface area.

  2. But isn't it wonderful! I love this kit. I think from your outstanding paint job that you probably do as well. I love the blue carapace and the deep tones. So when are we going to have our 30k forces + titans and knights meet in battle? We might need some people to help us out as well.

    1. John, I think there'll be a 30K event towards the end of May. Keep your schedule open, I'll let you know once I have details.

    1. Thanks Zab. I was hoping to get them done by this weekend, but I think it'll take a little longer.

  4. How do you get such symmetric and sharp edges on your checkered pattern? Just patience and practice?

    1. Hi Sean, yep, patience and practice. While I was working on the shoulder pad I was tempted to try some masking, but it would have taken me a lot longer. : )

  5. Looks good, Dave! Just finished one of these monsters (final pics this weekend) and it did surprise me how long it took to paint. Even with a relatively simple scheme, getting clean even coats on the large, flat panels took at lot of time.

    1. Clarence, your beast looks fantastic! And you are not wrong about those panels, but I'm finding the vast amount of everything is the real time sink ; )

  6. Loving it! Can't wait to see the final result - Been in the midst of painting a pair m'self and it's surprising how much there actually is to paint!

    Good stuff, man!

    1. I'm currently approaching 30 hours for the pair. I'm hoping to escape under 40 hours, but… who am I kidding?

  9. Nice looking Knight. I agree with all above, it is a lovely kit that you can sink any amount of time into. I do hope this sets the standards for coming releases from GW.

    1. Thanks Agis, but if all GW kits are this good/detailed, no one will ever paint an army again ; )

  10. Hey Dave, how do you get such deep, luxurious golds?

    1. Hi Trevor, basically the recipe is this:

      • Base - VGC Hammered Copper
      • Highlight - VGC Glorious Gold
      • Highlight - Glorious Gold/CIT Runefang Steel mix
      • Shade - Secret Weapon Amethyst Wash
      • For really dark areas, shade - VGC Charred Brown/Black mix

      Hope that helps : )

    1. If you want to paint anything else this year B, I'd hold off, they can suck all your time without a problem. Should you want to borrow one for a game later in the year, just let me know ; )
