Adeptus Mechanicus... reborn

Back in November I showed you a couple of conversions I'd done using the monstrous bearers of the new Chaos Warshrine. Once I'd finished painting the servitor above, and after reading Graham McNeill's excellent Priests Of Mars (and re-reading his Mechanicum), I've decided to go back and revamp my old Adeptus Mechanicus army. It's been hanging around for seven or so years, and it is certainly time for an update.

As well as bringing the existing models up to date, I'm also going to create a whole host of new Adepts, Magos, and servitors. At the moment, if I had to pick a codex to use with it, I think I'd have to go for Chaos Space Marines, but we'll see how things develop.

I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I'm sure I will ; )

Cheers
Dave

    1. Seems like a case of great minds think alike, although I may have posted mine a touch earlier ; )

I recently played against a Typhus horde supported by Obliterators. I figure servitors (I have 30 of them at the moment) could work a zombies, and other AM attendants as Cultists, plus a lot of big guys as Obliterators. Then, of course, comes the Daemon Engines ; )

    2. I bought the War Shrine for some bits I wanted and then saw the post you linked went home and dabbled still need to integrate everything and clean it up. Won't reach the same standard but you are as always a great source of inspiration!

Also worth thinking about Skitarii as I am sure some Chaos Marines would work rules wise as the gene engineered guys... can't think of the name Centurions or something.

    3. I agree that CSMs could work for Skitarii, rules wise, now to just come up with the "right" look for them modelwise ; )

Is the plasma cannon on your guy from the IG sentinel?

  5. OH MY GOD! The fact that you're building a Mechanicus themed army (again) is a hobby dream come true for me!

Also, the use of those warshrine mutants is very inspired!

Extremely thrilled to see what's next!

    1. Just realised that I forgot something: What about adding some barcode tattoes to those huge servitors? That would underline the fact that they were artifically created for the task. Just an idea...

Anyway, keep up the great work!

  6. I was going to get my admech back up and running (using GK codex) but the Adeptus Mechanicus rules in HHB1B brought me hope for the future. Also the FW admech models wip look great.

  7. It isn't much, but the rules are what really sold me on them http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr305/captaingrizz/HH8_zpsaf506cdd.jpg

  9. Very nice! I've been slowly gathering bits for my next Ad-Mech force as well, and poring over the various codexes trying to sort out a good set of counts-as rules. I've been leaning towards CSM with Necron Allies (or vice-versa): I like the idea of using Chaos Cultist rules as menial rabble and the Daemon engines as some of the heavy Ad-Mech war machines, while Necron Warriors rules might make for good Skitarii (heavier weaponry and repair protocols due to their bionics), and the various hypertechnological artifacts the Necrons have make for interesting rules to represent the dark age relics that the Ad-Mech sometimes utilize. It may be worth looking over the Tempus Fugitives Codex: Cult Mechanicus for interesting unit ideas as well.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with - keep up the great work, it is always inspirational stuff!

    1. I haven't had a close look at the Necron allies idea, but it could work out quite well.

  10. I have an AD Mech conversion army, using Grey Knights rules, with the big ones as Dreadnoughts, and Techpriests/Techmarines as inquisitors and Techmarines and Librarians. I usually run Coteaz with a bunch of battle psyker squads.

    1. I think the bulk of my AM are not really that "fighty" looking, so the GK list wouldn't work for me, but I can imagine the fun that could be had using that list ; )

    1. Thanks for that. I'm taking a class this year at AdeptiCon on OSL and I figured I should at least try things out before I go, so I have something that can be corrected ; )

  13. Lovely conversions and a great use of available bits (the DE sprues seem to be a great source of Frankenstein bits).

I came for the conversions, but then stayed for the 'tash; and dropped 10 bucks on your battle for healthier males. Do we get geneseed upgrades?

I love "Counts As" armies so would be disappointed if GW got their act together and brought out an AdMech Codex.
