Just another Thursday night.

Let me begin by saying, this Hydra is NOT mine. It was built by a mate of mine in New Zealand. Hagen has been building kick-ass armies for years (most notably an excellent Space Wolves army and an even better IG army). Hagen liked the truck design that Thomas and I came up with that he built his own variant half-track Hydra. The tracks are from the Ork Battlewagon, and the Hydra autocannons are those from the Aegis Defence Line box set.

I've got to say, it looks awesome. I'm going to have to steal it ; )

On to what I've been working on this week. I wrapped up these five Blood Angel Storm Shields for a commission. Some fun little sculpting bits.

And I've done some more work on the Tanith Scouts unit. The keen-eyed amongst you will notice that I have added cloaks to all the models now, and switched out a few of the helmeted head for hairy (and other) heads. While this may seem like a capitulation, it isn't. After chatting with Mr Abnett, the conclusion was that Gaunt's Ghosts do indeed wear helmets that would be part of the standard IG kit. The Tanith were less likely to do so, The Verghastite probably more so, and the Belladon are very fond of their headgear. Plenty of opportunity for mixing and matching ; )

So, I hope you all had a great week. Have fun.

Cheers
Dave

  3. You really can pull off one of those trucks with your eyes closed now, can't you? Great stuff.

  4. The Hydra looks great, but once again I have to say I don't like seeing Ork wheels (with their nailed on scrap look) on IG vehicles. I think a truck with that much effort put into conversion and scratch building deserves just that extra bit of detail. Perhaps wheels from a model kit, or even Lego, would work?
But hey- everything else about that Hydra rocks!

  5. I'm not sure which I'm more envious of, your mates hydra which is just outstanding or the fact that you can just have a chat with Dan Abnett about how your models should look.

Excellent work on the shields and cloaks mate.

  8. I remember Hagen's superb Breslau Panzerjaegers from a certain white dwarf! I know this because I borrowed his "Catachan-Cadian Veterans" idea. They are indeed superb. I'd love to see his army with a few flak-tracks in the rear now. You wouldn't know what else he's added to it since then, would you, Dave?

  9. Here's a question, Dave. What about for those of us less skilled in greenstuff? Any suggestions on bitz that might do the part? I am thinking perhaps there are Wood Elves bits that could work. Maybe another company has something for the cloaks/capes?

  10. Dave,
why do you use the brown putty and the green stuff on the same model? What is the brown putty?

  11. Hi guys

Thanks for your comments everyone. I'll try to answer some of you questions.

    @#2501 - Not my truck, it's a friend's.

@ColCorbane - I try to keep it to one question each year, that way he doesn't get annoyed ; )

@mckoll - unfortunately not that I know of, hopefully he'll post here soon.

@Koppenflak - The Breslau Panzerjaegers are very cool indeed, not sure what else he's added though.

@Wallshammer - Wood Elves have the most obvious cloaks, but a lot of carving would be required. There are a couple of cloaks on each of the Skaven Gutter Runner sprues, but really, it just takes some practice with greenstuff and remember the mantra, less is more.

@Black Matt - the brownstuff is a two-part putty like the greenstuff, but when it cures it is much harder and can hold a sharper edge. Greenstuff is better, though, for organic details.

    Cheers
    Dave

  12. i gotta say im rather disappointed that GW stopped the production of the Tanith models, even if they did look at odds with the rest of the Imp Guard models that have been created over the years...
    But i must admit,
what you have produced is very much how i pictured the Tanith while reading the books,
    keep up the great work,
cant wait to see if you convert your own Ibram Gaunt :)

  13. Thanks for the comments (and thanks Dave for putting the pictures up! I'm honoured :) ). The second Hydra is now 98% finished, and just needs some bitz to arrive from overseas for the gunner.

Apologies to Dave for posting a reply here - I don't have a blog yet, maybe in a month or two once I have painted these damn models ;-) (plus the other stuff I need to get done for a July tournament).

I have a few modelling diaries on Wargamerau that have some of my armies but the IG are in desperate need of an update as I've added a few squads and vehicles here and there.

And I am a massive fan of Dave's stuff from waaay back when he was just the editor at the Oz WD - not the hobby megastar he has become :)

    Cheers
    Hagen

  15. @Dave: of course it is, we all know you're projecting these things into others' minds with your hobby-psyker powers... ;) I was referring more to your "I'm going to have to steal it" comment. Sorry, should've been more clear. ^_^;;

  16. I've seen that bearded head around the net and was wondering what set it is from? I really like that one compared to the mass of scraggly bearded heads i've been using!

  17. @xRighteousFlamex - I think it's from the old Middenheimer "Hairy Head" sprue, which may still be available in the Empire Knights boxed set.
