The bases are here! The bases are here!

And now I can start showing them all together!

I am very happy! On Wednesday the first part of my base order from Dragon Forge Design arrrived. I was so excited, in fact, that all my other paint jobs were pushed to the side so I could get a chunk of the bases painted up and finally see my recent Mechanicum stuff added to them : )  In all I'll be getting over 100 bases from this very cool range - the Tech Deck series, found here!

As you can see on the two samples above, I've gone for a fairly dark scheme, in keeping with the brooding feeling of the rest of the models. Lots of steel (in various stages of decay), some exposed brass trim (with verde gris), some green cabling, and the ubiquitous hazard striping.

On some bases I've painted some of the cabling with hazard striping too, just for that extra pop of detailing. The rusty/dusty look on the bases is from a final dusting of Rust Red and Rust Orange weathering powders from Secret Weapon Miniatures.

Here's my current WIP for the Mechanicum, and the base he'll end up on.

And finally, I'll leave you with a clearer shot of the rebased (or freshly based) models so far.

I hope you like them : )

Cheers
Dave

  1. Bases are looking great and the group shot is awesome. The force is shaping up nicely as being really characterful.

The Grot Tank based Quad Gun guy is on quite a big base, how will you be using him? Will he count as say a Hydra in game so the large base is there to represent the Chimera hull it would normally be mounted on?

    1. Thanks Rictus. I'm not sure what I'll use him for yet. Possibly a Hydra, maybe a Quad-gun, or maybe even a Forgefiend. The options are many ; )

  14. You know I wasn't that excited about these guys until I saw them all together and got a feel for how the overall army was going to look. You have a real talent for painting awesome miniatures.

The Dragon Forge bases are Ace too!

  16. Lovely stuff; however, should the bases really be rusty? Pitted, corroded and ancient, yes; but oiled, polished and loved by generations of apprentices and servitors. Surely rust is something one should never see in the precincts of the Omnisiah. Pools and sheens of greenish oil would also serve to accent the red robes of the wingnut brigade. Just a suggestion.

Your page is a hobby high point for me; along with the Specialist Games Thread on Ammobunker where there are loads of lovely 28mm Inquisitor conversions.

    1. Hi Euan

I'd agree with you on the basing IF they were walking the halls of Mars. Where they actually will be revealed in the fullness of time, then we can debate it's "accuracy" ; )
