Mechanicum - Finally, an update on the Knight-Lancer


A quick update of the Cerastus Knight Lancer. Last post you saw the pilot posing in his Throne Mechanicum. Here you can see some of the painted version in situ.


And here are a couple of shots with the carapace in place. I have a bit more work to do on the carapace and shoulder pads, including custom decals and weathering.



And then, of course, it's completing the weapon arms. I'm pretty happy with how he's coming along : )

      Thanks Greg. Looks like I have a discrepancy between the reds on the carapace and on the shoulder pad. I'll have to check that out.

    Very nicely done! Love the spot color panels with the hazard stripes. Really sets off nicely against the red. Looking forward to seeing more!

      No tutorial, but it was an airbrush experiment using Vallejo Hull Red and Vallejo Flat Red over a black undercoat.

    May I ask how you achieved the effect you have with painting the metallic parts?? They look nice and scuffed up but also clean... Can you explain how you managed that? Was it just the way you applied the paint with the brush?

      Hi David, I've just posted the recipe for my "iron" metallics in a new post. Hopefully that covers most of your question. For the other part (paint application), I simply use a big drybrush to add a little bit of texture to the paint, giving it that "scuffed but also clean" feel you mentioned. One important thing is to brush from lots of different angles, to avoid streaking.
