Busy, but not much to show for it.

I've busy, very busy, these past two weeks. Busy with work, travel, illness, children with illness, etc etc. I've still managed to squeeze in some painting time, and you can see the figures I've finished over on the Guns Of April blog ; )

In addition, here are a few cool things that have entered my house since the Cold Wars convention last weekend:

• Marshal Ney, the free figure from the Cold Wars show.

• Lots of fun reference material from those chaps at Osprey. Take particular note of the two on the right.

• Eight models from the "Napoleon in Egypt" range from Brigade Games. They are all members of the French Dromedary Corps, two mounted and six dismounted. I'm really looking forward to painting these up for some fun "Rosetta Stone" period skirmish gaming!

Earlier this week a package of Mantic's Corporation troopers arrived on my doorstep. I was originally under the impression that the Corporation models would be plastic, but these are the plastic resin. I've not worked with it yet, so I'm curious how things will turn out. I must say the figures look great, possibly the best from Mantic this far. A solid mix of contemporary and near-future aesthetics.

Finally, my Scenic Express order arrived with some more Late Summer Buffalo Grass tufts (I use these all the time). I added a few items I haven't used before that you'll get to see added to models over the coming months. The package at the front has four separate sheets of meadow flowers, each with different colors (yellow/white, red/white, purple/white, and brown/white). Should be fun to try these things out.

Until next time.

Cheers
Dave

  2. Dave,

    One question and one suggestion....
    Question
How did you achieve the brown trouser effect on the Nappies ? A glaze of brown over the normally painted white trousers ?

    Suggestion
Wash the Resin with a toothbrush and some dishwater soap otherwise you will probably have a disaster (cause of the releasing powder/agent that is used with resin) (even with Humbrol matt black or black spray cans)
But you probably know this already.

    Cheers Rene

    1. Hi Rene

I should've mentioned it in the text but forgot to. I used a large brush and basically drybrushed/stippled with a Rust Orange weathering powder. I then followed up with the Burning Sands powder from Secret Weapon Miniatures. I think the result works well with the basing colors.

And thanks for the tip on the plastic resin. I've done that before for regular resin, but haven't used this material before.

      Cheers

  3. Dave, please give one of those Mantic troopers a decent paint job soon and post it up. The pictures and paint jobs on their website are terrible to say the least, and yours look good, that's what'll decide me on getting any.

    1. What sort of scheme would you like to see it in? I don't have any schemes that I have to do them in, so the field is open.

  4. You need to invest in a better camera so that you can post some close ups of those lovely figs ;-)

Those Scenic Express products look like they will be a lot of fun to work with. I just learned about that company at Cold Wars and I'm looking forward to buying some (ok a lot) of products for basing and vignettes.

  5. Mmmmm Scenic Express... Those catalogs are true dork porn. I lent mine to The Shuffler and it has yet to return. The Meadow Flowers are awesome. I used them to great effect on my TOS LOTR Wood Elves. Look forward to seein' what you do with 'em.

  6. From exterior it appears strong and macho, but its elegant looks from insides establish it in greatest way. Ford makers periodically update its inside. Its redesign in previous yr introduced up new modifications like flooring in the rear seating area is now fully flat and also a massive parcel can be accommodated guiding for benz SD connector C4 or the front seats.

  7. I realize this is a bit late, but do you have the skew or the information on the meadow flowers? Were they 4mm or 6mm? Thanks!
