Here are the first three of the new, Forgeworld Mechanicum Thallax Cohorts.
I went for a fairly simple color scheme, much like the FW paintjob, but a little brighter on the brassy bits.
I decided not to go for a bright blue glowing power core, but I might change that if enough of you think otherwise. Also, for the face plate I decided to steal a little bit from Roman Lappat's class. On of the busts he has painted features deep black eyes, accentuated by four or five layers of gloss varnish. I think it adds just the right touch of depth to the head.

Fantastic work. I really love the face plates.
ReplyDeletePower core looks fine as is although I could see where a bright blue with a little source lighting would make the back of the cohorts more interesting.
Good job on those as well.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't remember the part on the back was supposed to be a powercore. However, when I saw it, my first thought was "got to remember, to paint some "lenses" on other part of minis, than the obvious places" [as it looks cool and very interesting].
Heads look spot on as well.
They look very good; I myself, prefer the muted power cell as it matches the minis rather well! Your tech priest host is shaping up nicely!
ReplyDeleteI love OSL glowy bits myself, but they look great as is dude. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful - those sculpts are really fantabulous and paintjob is top notch.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it would be nice with red shoulderpads though - to tie them in with the rest of the army and bring in a dash of colour?
Fantastic models, and paint job :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jeff, a little red would be perfect.
Cheers

I love the masks as well. I feel like they could use some "pop" though. It doesn't have to be blue powercell/osl, but a splash of color like a tiny bit more red or some other device to tie them in like white gears somewhere.
ReplyDeleteIts not necessary by any means though.
These look fantastic.

Darn it, Dave! I'm trying NOT to spend money at the moment, and this isn't helping!
ReplyDeleteI really dig how those turned out, I was really hoping you'd paint up a unit and you did not disappoint! The facemasks are fantastic, love the gloss coat look. I also like the brighter, but still subdued scheme overall - the rear lenses look ace! They strike me as being pretty fiddly in the assembly stage, though - How was the build process?
Keep up the excellent work! Ave Omnissiah! :)
Precious miniatures, a very glossy army, since of custom in your works. Regards.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, nice job Mr. Taylor! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat mini's what paint dit you use?
