Here we go with all ten Tactical Marines painted and standing on their new bases. I just need to add their blood and gore splatters on the base, their greaves, and on the occasional combat weapon.
Here are the last two Marines to get the treatment. The guy on the right was, of course, the model used for the yellow tutorial from a couple of posts back.
And finally, some of the feet kind of hung over the edges of the bases. As I wanted the models to be standing in the blood and gore, I needed them to be standing lower inside the Secret Weapon Miniatures Bone Fields bases. To achieve this it was a fairly simple matter to slice out small slivers of the sides of the bases, as you can see in the photo above.
Next step, adding gallons of gore!

So the head will pop a little bit more into focus.

ReplyDeleteYour Lamenters look really wicked, I like them even though they're lapdogs. :D How about some water effects for the bases (sorry if you already commented on that, but I didn't read everything as I'm a little bit in a hurry)?
I know how annoying yellow is to paint, so you have all my approval. Keep it on!
These are really good, love the battle damage and the yellow. Just so all your feedback is not 100% positive, which is great for motivation but doesn't help you improve....here goes.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell if it is the unnaturally large images that we view these models in, but the faces look like they need some work - especially the eyes. I would add more color modulation to the faces in general and define the eyes better if possible. Not sure if that level of detail is really important though, as it is an army project, not a display project.
Also the purity seals need work. I would define the purity seals better, by doing some more outlining where the top seal overlaps the other and re-do the script on them - right they look like lines not script. I would suggest a very fine tipped micron pen for that work.
Good luck! These are so awesome that I would be remiss if I did not point out areas that could use improvement. Hope it is taken in the manner it was intended. You are always considered a demi-god of miniature painting in my book!
Yeah, the size of the images might be impacting your impression, but I'll add a little more definition to the faces and purity seals, although the approach to the text/script will rain the same ; )

A very good work, since already I have commented previously, you have obtained a few colors fabulous and full of life. If there am allowed I, probably you might give shade to the eyes and inside the mouth.

Dave, I do not want to alarm you, but it looks like you forgot something...to paint moustaches on those minis ;)
ReplyDeleteThey do look spectacular. I think that the advice about touching up the face is well delivered though. And I am impressed at how you made a primary color color scheme work. (Yellow armor, red seals etc, blue guns, and the rest is black white or in-between.) Not as easy as people might think.

Looks great! I haven't added gore to my Secret Weapon bases yet, but I had one foot in it and the other foot was resting on the lip since I did n't want the water effects to leak out the side.

They look awesome, fantastic job. But myself can't bring my marines to look like that (battle damaged armor, chipped paint, etc.)
ReplyDeleteIn pretty much all the books the fluff indicates that they (the astares) revered their weapons and armor, they repair all damage and re-paint their armor back to normal. So you see they can have a whole crusade and the armor would look good.Maybe the talbards of the Templars might look worn but not the armor.
