I've just wrapped up the last models for the Armies On Parade in-store qualifier, so I'm all ready to go tomorrow. Unfortunately Mike, the store manager, let me know that no-one else has mentioned bringing in an entry, so my army might be lonely on the day. Of course, the store will be full of folks in a 40K mood, so I guess we'll see how it all goes down.
Anyway, here are a few more photos of the board. Thanks again to the guys at
Dropzone Games for their sponsorship!
And if you'd like to see the army that'll win at Games Day Chicago in four weeks time, check out James Wappel's army
here. ; )
Cheers
Dave
Fantastic stuff Dave! You've once again done a brilliant job. The scene really comes to live.
ReplyDeleteOne question though, how many skulls are on this board?... lol
Cheers,
Seb
Too many to count, but you already knew that ; )
DeleteWow.
ReplyDeleteSimply fantastic.
So much detail, I love all the fallen leaves with the immense amounts of skulls everywhere.
You've created such great atmosphere with this piece.
Thanks Kevin, sadly I can't take credit for all the skulls ; )
DeleteThe board looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHow did you apply the leaves? I am using similar miniature leaves on the bases of an army I'm painting, and gluing them down one at a time is getting tedious. I can't imagine with that volume, that you did them one at a time.
Hi Nuclear, i'd typically put down a large patch of glue, with much smaller dabs scattered about it. I then sprinkled the leaves over the patch, making sure that all the glue was covered, by adding more leaves than needed. Once the glue was dry I tapped off the excess leaves. Then I added a few individual leaves here and there.
DeleteNice one Dave - the leaf litter really adds to the piece - makes it more believeable than a bare board or just static grass could have.
ReplyDeleteThe muted colours and tones also help set the scene.
Heres looking for this as a spread in a future WD a la your last years entry.
Really lovely, Dave.
ReplyDeleteLooking good.

Absolutely stunning! A work of art Sir!
ReplyDeleteDave, I really hope you have some competition. You've done really beautiful work here, and it would be a shame if you did not get to compete.
ReplyDeleteNothing short of amazing Dave!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! The rust on the fence and the other metal areas across the board really stuck out for me. How'd you do it?
ReplyDeleteSteve, the rusted iron was base coated in black mixed with Vallejo Hull Red, then stippled with the new GW Skrag Brown, followed by a smaller amount of bright orange stippling.
DeleteThat new Skrag Brown is just perfect for this, better than the old Vermin Brown.
Thanks for your comments everyone! Hopefully I'll put some photos up tomorrow of the whole thing set up.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Dave
Awesome stuff Dave!
ReplyDeleteneeds Morr puns!
ReplyDeleteI was very tempted to title this post "Morr photos of the Display Board" but just couldn't bring myself to do it.
DeleteDave, you did the right thing. Its been punned to death. Haha. I just started following Wappel's work a few weeks ago. His work is absolutely gorgeous for sure but I like the subtlety of your work more. He may have taken it too far. Don't count yourself out of the big prize just yet. ;^)
ReplyDeleteAwesome stuff as usual!
ReplyDeleteExcellent work on the board Dave, and thanks for saving us from MORE puns. :)
ReplyDeleteJason
Love the whole project! Great work...Would love some input on my board, come check it out sometime
ReplyDeleteHi Sir Lathan
DeleteI'd be happy to critique, but can't find a link to your work : (
